A luxurious San Diego hotel is seeking an adaptable and resourceful professional to serve as the new Director of Sales & Catering. This position offers a unique opportunity to drive success and innovation in a premier hospitality setting.
The Director of Sales & Catering plays a pivotal role in driving revenue for the hotel and its associated wellness center. This position is responsible for leading and strategizing with the Sales and Catering team to optimize income. By collaborating closely with the General Manager, the director outlines both short-term and long-term objectives to enhance financial performance. This leadership role demands a visionary approach paired with strong financial planning skills, coupled with exceptional communication and people management abilities to connect effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with the General Manager and hotel management to prepare the annual Business Plan.
- Develops and monitors action plans for Sales, Service, Catering, and AV/IT Managers to meet Business Plan objectives.
- Analyzes market trends and coordinates activities to boost revenue through increased business volume and rates.
- Secures new and repeat business through networking with Destination Management Offices, Travel Agencies, and professional associations.
- Maintains relationships with meeting planners, corporate accounts, and incentive buyers via sales calls and communications.
- Implements special programs to enhance productivity by increasing average daily rate, business volume, and revenues.
- Represents the hotel in community associations and events to promote engagement and networking.
- Directs sales activities to ensure revenue goals are achieved and conducts weekly reviews of the sales team’s performance.
- Meets with major event organizers to ensure guest satisfaction and address large group needs.
- Reviews daily business levels with department heads to anticipate and effectively manage critical situations.
- Produces monthly sales reports, forecasts, and organizes major sales and PR functions.
- Leads and manages a team of group sales managers and fosters a cooperative teamwork environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education.
- Minimum two years’ experience as a Director of Sales or Assistant Director of Sales in a full-service hotel.
- Proficient in creating and maintaining business accounts.
- Advanced proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Strong communication skills, both telephone and in-person.
- Excellent writing and oral presentation abilities.
- Familiar with developing Sales & Marketing Strategies and hotel operations.
- Knowledgeable about Audio Visual Equipment and Desktop Support.
